Gift of Rare Books

Two volumes (1521, 1557) with bindings made from recycled medieval manuscripts

The Rare Books collection has been augmented with a gift of books from The American Division of the Jesuit Historical Institute. Consisting of twenty-five titles, the donation complements and strengthens our existing collections and includes works on theology, church history, language, law, literature, and exploration, ranging in date from the sixteenth to the eighteenth century. The majority of these titles were printed before 1585, and several of them survive in only five copies or fewer recorded worldwide. Saint Louis University Libraries Special Collections was selected as the recipient of this gift because of its outstanding efforts and dedication to cataloging our rare books and making them accessible to students, faculty, and researchers. If you have questions about these materials or wish to view them or use them for a class, please contact Jennifer Lowe in Rare Books.
