University Archivist to Receive Catholic Library Association Award

John Waide (A&S ’73), University Archivist in the Saint Louis University Libraries Special Collections, has been named as the recipient of the 2013 Fons Sapientiae (Seat of Wisdom) Award by the Greater St. Louis Chapter of the Catholic Library Association. “The Fons Sapientiae Award is given for meritorious contributions by living persons or organizations for notable writing, editing, publishing, illustrating, promoting the purposes and goals of professional library organizations, or extraordinary service in allied fields.” Past SLU recipients to be honored include Rev. W. Charles Heiser, SJ, Rev. Lowrie John Daly, SJ, and Rev. William B. Faherty, SJ. A member of the University Libraries for thirty-eight years, John Waide has been University Archivist since 1989 and is the keeper of SLU’s institutional memory. He teaches and speaks frequently about the university, and is a member of the Association of St. Louis Area Archivists, the St. Louis Area Religious Archivists, the Midwest Archives Conference, the Academy of Certified Archivists, and the Society of American Archivists. This award recognizes his important role as an educator in the use of original archival sources for historical research and his deep knowledge of the history of SLU and of St. Louis. The award will be made on March 9, 2013, at the spring conference of the Greater St. Louis Chapter of the Catholic Library Association.
