Rita G. Adams Photographic Collection is the newest assembly of photographs added to the Saint Louis University Libraries Digital Collections. You may or may not be familiar with the name Rita G. Adams but you definitely have been introduced to her work, especially if Saint Louis University history piques your interest. William B. Faherty, S.J., according to the acknowledgements in his 1968 book Better the Dream : Saint Louis : University & Community, consulted with many people including Doctor Rita Adams about “various phases of University history”. Adams had extensive knowledge to draw from being a SLU graduate and former History department staff member while also compiling over 1,200 images over the course of her research on Saint Louis University and the St. Louis area. Many of these went into her 1968 book, Saint Louis University: 150 Years, which is also available in our digital collections. Adams’ collection of historic photos is an excellent resource on the history of SLU in the 19th and early 20th centuries, and has been sorted according to the same categories she used including, but not limited to Jesuit Groups, Old St. Louis and Student Activities.
